In Australia the calls are astronomically expensive and you can't even get a signal outside major cities.
I think this is true for most big, US-like, countries. It would be very expensive for operators to cover every inch of the territory... On the other hand, i am not sure about the prices. Last time i checked, prices in western Europe were indeed higher then ours but a lot could change from then :]

Don't get me started on mobile phone connections either. In Australia the calls are astronomically expensive and you can't even get a signal outside major cities.

It annoys me when people think everything is wonderful in the western world and useless in Montenegro.
    Yeah Babe, you´re right.
The same procedure as in Germany. I live in a small village near a big City, but it´s internet desert. 500Kb/sec by DSL is a dream, normally 200 - 300kB/sec. Uptown 16.000Kb/sec

T-com-Service, bullshit! But the others are´nd better. Service desert Germany. They all want to get your best - your money.

Have you ever tried to install a DSL-connection from T-Com?
In 2 hours you´re ready for the loony bin.

2005/2006/2007 i used to play ball in Italy. All three years i was in a different city. In all three cities i signed up for adsl service, and waited for at least month and a half... Once setup, internet would work fine, but getting it was whole another story. I had fast web, vodafon, and telecom italia....

I´ve just read a report in ftd.de (Financial Times) about the situation in Germany.
T-com is dealing with Government ( major shareholder) to change the old copper cable to glas fiber. Less than 1% are glas fiber cables today. ( Japan 67% ) T-Com promised to knit a slim net.
But it´s a multibillion invest. Who should pay? - the customer.

Correction - Montenegrin customers, or some other poor bastards who happen to be unfortunate enough to be under T-com's boot worldwide.

My friend in the UK always complains about her internet dropping out. Something to do with the cabling.

In Australia, we have about 15-20 Internet providers to chose from....healthy competition

those with poor service, quality, connection speeds quickly become known and thus people dont use them
